Abstract
Now in its tenth edition in twelve years, the collaborative workshop La Città della Canzone offers insights into creative songwriting processes. This perspective stems from a project that prioritises self-reflection and training over the final product, and in-depth reasoning overachieving an immediately marketable result. Drawing on literature reviews in musicology, psychology and sociology, as well as reflecting on my experience as a researcher and organiser of this event, I will attempt to outline the benefits of taking a field approach to these issues. This will consider the analysis of pre-compositional materials and the outcomes of collective reflection on creative processes. These observations will be examined systematically in the analytical section of the article dedicated to Serie A, considering the Turin singer-songwriter Fusaro’s trajectory from initial sketches to the finalisation of his musical work. When observed from the point of view of collaboration, with the aim of achieving a satisfactory result for all parties involved, the coordinates of creative action will allow us to consider the methods and qualities of the transformations implemented at each stage of the process as an emerging property of the relationships of trust and hierarchies established between the actors involved, moment by moment.
